Can Botox Fix a Tear Trough Wrinkles?
I have "gravel" between my nose and under my left eye. It appears that it's a result of my "fat" fleshy face being mashed as I sleep on my side. Can Botox help with these wrinkles?
Under Eye Skin
Thanks for your question - Botox works by paralyzing muscles that when they contract create wrinkles. In the area you describe is part of the orbicularis muscle around your eye. In this portion of the eye the wrinkles you see are more likely to be caused by loose skin or by herniating fat than by the muscle contraction. This means that Botox is unlikely to be a good solution. These areas typically require surgery or ablative laser treatments to remove or tighten the underlid skin. I hope this helps.
Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-approved neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. It works by blocking the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. Results typically appear within 3–7 days and last 3–4 months, though some patients report longer duration with consistent treatment. Common treatment areas include the glabella (frown lines), forehead, and lateral canthal lines (crow’s feet). Dosing is measured in units and varies by treatment area and muscle mass.
The American Board of Plastic Surgery maintains rigorous standards for certification that go well beyond state medical licensing requirements.
