Could the side effects such as a feeling of heaviness and swelling after bad Botox be permanent?
It seems that some of your symptoms could be related to your Botox injection, however, Botox side effects usually resolve by six months after treatment. This is because Botox works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to muscle, and that effect wears off gradually as the nerve endings regenerate. Because of this, symptoms should slowly improve over weeks to months, not get worse. You may notice heaviness or mild swelling easing bit by bit rather than all at once.
If these symptoms persist or worsen, I recommend seeing a physician. Worsening symptoms, new asymmetry, or swelling that doesn't budge past that six month window isn't typical for Botox alone and deserves an exam to look for another cause.
Clinical Context
Heaviness and swelling after Botox are almost always temporary, but the trade-off is that they can feel alarming while they last, especially if a muscle nearby has weakened unevenly. Because Botox's effect on nerve signaling fades gradually over a few months, symptoms should ease rather than worsen over time. If heaviness or swelling continues past that window, or steadily worsens, a physician should examine the area to rule out other causes.
