Do I need this many units for my first time?

The number of units needed depends on the muscle strength, the area being treated, and your goals, not on some fixed standard for a "first-timer." Men often need more units than women because frontalis and glabellar muscles tend to be bulkier. Someone with strong, deep-set frown lines will need more product to fully relax the corrugator and procerus muscles than someone with faint lines. For a first treatment, many injectors start on the lower end of the typical range for a given area and adjust upward at follow-up once they see how you respond, since undercorrection is easier to fix than overcorrection. Without an exam I can't tell you if your specific unit count is appropriate, but a board-certified plastic surgeon or experienced injector should be able to explain their reasoning for the dose they've recommended, area by area, before you proceed.

Clinical Context

Where Botox is placed matters as much as how many units are used. If product spreads too close to the brow or eyelid, it can temporarily weaken the levator muscle that lifts the eyelid, causing a mild droop that resolves over several weeks as the toxin wears off. If a treated muscle is undertreated, the lines it caused will return sooner than expected. Ask your injector how they're distributing units across the muscles being treated, not just the total count.
