Clinical Context
Tip swelling lasts longer than swelling elsewhere on the nose because the skin there is thicker and its lymphatic drainage is more delicate and easily disrupted during surgery. Cartilage grafts and sutures placed at the tip also need time to settle as healing tissue matures around them. This process happens gradually and unevenly, so the nose can look nearly final at one point and still shift as healing continues. That's why surgeons wait before judging the outcome.
