Heavy eyelid after Botox

Botox may diffuse into surrounding muscles, especially when larger volumes are used. It would be best to re-evaluate the position of the lid/brow after waiting 2 weeks to determine how much they have dropped. They are unlikely to drop further after 2 weeks but if you have true eyelid droop, there are special eye drops that can be prescribed to help raise the lid a couple millimeters.

Clinical Context

Botox-related eyelid droop happens when the toxin spreads into the muscle that normally lifts the eyelid. Special drops, such as apraclonidine, work differently - they stimulate a separate muscle, Müller's muscle, which can lift the lid a couple of millimeters while the affected muscle recovers on its own. This droop typically improves as the Botox effect wears off. Taking photos in the same lighting and gaze direction over time can help you and your surgeon see whether the droop is stable, worsening, or improving before deciding on any treatment.
