How does the drain hole heal after the drain is removed?
Most Brazilian Butt Lift procedures don't use drains since fat grafting doesn't create the same fluid accumulation you see with tissue excision surgery like a tummy tuck. If you do have a drain, whether from a combined procedure or a specific technique, the exit site is a small puncture through skin, not a surgical incision that's been sutured closed. Once the tube is removed, the hole closes on its own through normal skin healing: the tract collapses, granulation tissue fills in, and skin cells migrate across the opening within days. There may be minor drainage for a day or two, and the surrounding skin often looks slightly puckered or discolored before it settles. A small dot of a scar can remain but usually fades over time. Keeping the area clean and dry helps prevent infection while it closes. Your plastic surgeon will monitor the site at follow-up visits and can tell you whether what you're seeing is expected healing or needs attention.
Clinical Context
Keep the drain site clean and dry while it's healing, and avoid soaking it in baths, pools, or hot tubs until it's fully closed. Smoking and poorly controlled blood sugar can slow wound healing in general, so these sites may take a bit longer to close in that case. Watch for signs that need attention rather than routine healing: spreading redness, increasing pain, warmth, foul-smelling drainage, or fever. If any of these occur, call your surgeon's office rather than waiting for your scheduled follow-up.
