I feel like I'm coming down with a cold and my bbl surgery is in 4 days. What should I do?
Most of the time common colds will not interfere with outpatient procedures like liposuction and fat transfer. The best person to ask however is your surgeon!
What matters more than the label "cold" is where the symptoms are. A stuffy nose or mild sore throat with no fever usually isn't a problem for anesthesia. But if you develop a cough, chest congestion, fever, or feel short of breath, that changes things, since irritated airways can react unpredictably to sedation and raise the risk of breathing problems during and after surgery. Call my office as soon as you notice symptoms rather than waiting until the day before. We'll ask how you're feeling day by day and decide together whether to proceed or reschedule.
Clinical Context
A mild head cold with no fever or chest symptoms usually adds little risk during a same-day procedure. Anesthesia teams pay closer attention when a cold has moved into the chest, causing cough, congestion, or fever, because irritated airways can react differently to sedation and raise the chance of breathing problems. How you're feeling in the days leading up to surgery, not just the word 'cold,' helps guide the decision to proceed.
