How long does Juvederm & Voluma really last?
Voluma is designed to last up to about two years in the cheeks, making it one of the longer-lasting fillers we use. Plain Juvederm products (like Juvederm Ultra or Ultra Plus, used for nasolabial folds or lips) typically last closer to six to twelve months, since they're a softer gel meant for finer correction rather than volumizing bone-adjacent areas like the midface. Longevity depends on injection depth, the amount used, and how quickly your body metabolizes hyaluronic acid. More product placed deeper against bone tends to persist longer than smaller amounts placed superficially.
Radiesse is sometimes brought up as an alternative. It's calcium hydroxylapatite, not hyaluronic acid, so it can't be dissolved with hyaluronidase if you're unhappy with the result, but it does gradually biodegrade and get absorbed by the body over time, generally lasting close to a year. That permanence-versus-reversibility tradeoff is worth discussing with your injector when choosing between products for your specific goals.
Clinical Context
Right after injection, hyaluronic acid filler often looks fuller than its final result because of swelling and water uptake; the gel settles over the following weeks. After that, volume loss is usually gradual rather than sudden, and it varies from person to person. Factors like metabolism, sun exposure, and how much the treated area moves can all influence how long results last, which is one reason the same product can behave differently in different patients.
