How Long to Use Ice Pack After Restylane?
Cool compresses (not ice cubes) can be effective after injectables to decrease swelling. We use a cool compress prior to injection to constrict the blood vessels and improve comfort. We have found this to be a very effective technique to reduce possible complications and improve patient comfort.
Clinical Context
Restylane contains hyaluronic acid, which naturally attracts water into the tissue where it's placed. This can make the area look slightly puffier for the first day or two before it settles. Cold reduces blood flow to the area, which helps limit swelling and bruising right after injection. Once initial swelling has gone down, most patients don't need any additional cooling or warming and can return to normal skincare and activity.
