How Painful Are Botox Injections for Underarm Hyperhidrosis?
Most patients seem to tolerate Botox injections at the underarms very well. The needle used is small and the treatment is quick, despite the number if injections delivered. A topical anesthetic cream can be used to help alleviate some of the discomfort. Sometimes a cold pack can do the trick as well. This treatment is very effective in reducing excessive sweating for 3-6 months.
Clinical Context
Underarm skin has many sweat glands close together, so treatment involves several small injections spread across the area to cover it evenly. Most of the discomfort comes from the needle itself rather than the medication, and it's brief since each injection is quick. Numbing cream or a cold pack beforehand can make the process more comfortable. Botox works by blocking the nerve signals that trigger sweat glands, and results typically last several months before the injections need to be repeated.
