I had masseter Botox 3 days ago, when will I feel the effects?
Botox takes approximately 14 days for maximum effect but most individuals will feel some effect taking place 3-6 days after the initial treatment. This is because it takes time for the toxin to block the nerve signals telling the masseter muscle to contract, so the change happens gradually rather than all at once. In the first week you may notice less tension when clenching or chewing, or a feeling of tiredness in the jaw with heavy chewing. If you're hoping for a slimmer jawline rather than just less clenching, that takes longer still, often several weeks to a couple of months, since it depends on the muscle actually shrinking down from disuse. At three days out, it's normal to feel little to nothing yet. If you notice trouble swallowing, chewing, or speaking, that's not expected and you should contact my office.
Clinical Context
At three days, it's normal to feel little to no change yet, and that delay isn't a sign anything went wrong. The trade-off with masseter Botox is that effects build gradually over one to two weeks as nerve signals to the muscle fade, so judging results too early can lead to unnecessary worry or a premature request for touch-ups. Jaw slimming takes even longer, since it depends on the muscle shrinking from reduced use, not just weaker contraction.
