I'm 42. Should I get botox or is it already too late?

42 is not too old to start Botox. It's great to hear you only have small wrinkles. Botox works on dynamic wrinkles, the lines caused by muscle movement, like crow's feet or forehead lines that show up when you make expressions. By relaxing those muscles, Botox treatment will help to soften your existing wrinkles and prevent them from deepening over time.

You'll typically notice smoothing within three to five days, with full effect by about two weeks, lasting three to four months before a touch-up is needed. If some lines stay visible even when your face is relaxed, they may be more etched into the skin, and we might discuss adding a filler or skin treatment for a better result. Please see an experienced, board-certified injector for your consultation and treatment.

Clinical Context

Botox works on dynamic wrinkles—lines caused by muscle movement, like crow's feet or forehead lines that appear when you make expressions. If a line fully smooths out when your face is relaxed, Botox can usually treat it well at any age. Lines that stay visible even at rest are static wrinkles, meaning they've become etched into the skin itself. Botox can still soften these, but treatments like fillers, laser resurfacing, or microneedling are often added for better results.
