Is a sizable purple mark normal after Restylane injection?
Bruising is not uncommon after filler injection due to the trauma of the needle as it is moved in and out of the skin. Fortunately, in the vast majority of cases, it is nothing to worry about and will go away on its own. It may take up to 2 weeks to resolve as your body breaks down the old blood there. In the future, apply a cool compress to the treated area on and off for the first 2 days after treatment to minimize risk of bruising.
Clinical Context
Bruising size varies because the face has many small blood vessels that aren't visible from the outside, and the needle or cannula can occasionally pass near one. This doesn't necessarily reflect anything about technique. Blood thinners, fish oil, alcohol, and certain supplements can increase bruising, so ask your provider whether to pause any of these beforehand. Most bruises change color as they heal and fade within one to two weeks without treatment, though healing time varies between patients and injection sites.
