Is Juvederm Voluma an Alternative to Radiesse?

Yes, Voluma and Radiesse are both viable options for cheek and midface volumizing, and the choice usually comes down to composition and reversibility rather than one being superior. Voluma is hyaluronic acid based, so if you don't like the result or get an asymmetry, we can dissolve it with hyaluronidase. It's formulated with lidocaine for comfort during injection, and it tends to last around a year to two years depending on the area and metabolism. Radiesse is calcium hydroxylapatite, a different mechanism entirely, it stimulates your own collagen production over time and generally lasts closer to a year. Radiesse also comes premixed with lidocaine now, so that's not really a differentiator anymore. The real distinction is that Radiesse isn't reversible if you're unhappy with placement, while Voluma can be adjusted. Which one makes sense depends on the area being treated, your anatomy, and goals. Worth discussing both directly with a board-certified plastic surgeon at consultation.

Clinical Context

Voluma and Radiesse both add volume to the cheeks and midface, but they work differently. Voluma is a hyaluronic acid gel that can be dissolved if you're unhappy with the result. Radiesse works by stimulating your body's own collagen and cannot be reversed once placed. Both now include lidocaine for comfort. Your surgeon can help decide which fits your goals, anatomy, and desired longevity.
