Lip fillers. The right side of my lips is very swollen. Is this normal or have my lips been filled unevenly?

Swelling after lip injections can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. Although it is common to have swelling resolve faster on one side, it's possible you may have a bruise/hematoma at the right upper lip where it is swollen and tender. Fortunately, it should resolve on its own. If it's not too painful, massaging the lump on the bottom right lip may help it to soften up. That said, if you notice any blanching or white, dusky, or blue skin color, skin that feels cool, severe or worsening pain, vision changes, or any stroke-like symptoms, you should be seen the same day, since these can signal a blocked blood vessel, which is treatable with hyaluronidase if caught early. It may be a good idea to follow up with your injector 2 weeks after the injection to re-evaluate the lips for asymmetry after the swelling resolves.

Clinical Context

Lips have a rich network of small blood vessels close to the surface, so injections can occasionally cause a small bruise or bit of bleeding under the skin. This can make one side look more swollen or firm than the other, even when the same amount of filler was used on each side. This kind of swelling usually settles within one to two weeks as the bruise resolves.
