Meige's Syndrome Treatment with Botox

Cranial dystonia (Miege's syndrome) can affect the muscles around the eyes in addition to those in the jaw, tongue and mouth. Botox can be an effective way to block the involuntary contractions of these muscles. However, of course, these muscles are responsible for things like facial expression and Botox can take 3-4 months to wear off. See an experienced medical provider who can help you strike a balance between better control of your involuntary contractions and being able to express yourself.

Clinical Context

Botox doesn't act instantly—most people notice improvement within a few days, with full effect by about two weeks. Because Meige's syndrome involves several muscle groups (around the eyes, jaw, and mouth), these areas don't always fade at the same rate, so one area may regain movement before another. As effects wear off, usually over a few months, your provider can help decide the right time for your next treatment based on your symptoms.
