Nose Tip Upturned After Rhinoplasty Surgery
An upturned nasal tip after rhinoplasty can be concerning, particularly if it looks noticeably different from what you expected. Early after surgery, however, an upturned appearance can simply be the result of swelling and temporary changes in the nasal tip. The tip often has significant swelling after rhinoplasty, and this can make it appear more elevated or rotated than it will ultimately look. As the swelling resolves and the tissues settle, the tip can gradually become less upturned. This process can take several months, with the final position sometimes taking 6–12 months or longer to become apparent. The degree of tip rotation also depends on what was done during surgery. Cartilage reshaping, sutures, grafts, and changes to the nasal septum can all affect the position and support of the tip. If the tip remains excessively upturned once the majority of the swelling has resolved, it is important to discuss it with your rhinoplasty surgeon. Revision surgery should generally not be considered too early, because operating on a nose that is still healing can make it difficult to accurately judge the final result and can introduce additional scar tissue.
