One Lumpy Cheek after Juvaderm Voluma
Lumpiness after Voluma is usually just swelling, product settling unevenly, or a small area of asymmetric placement, and most of this smooths out over two to three weeks as tissue integrates and swelling resolves. If a lump persists beyond that or feels firm and well-defined, it's worth a visit with your injector to check whether it's residual product, a nodule, or something needing attention.
Voluma is a Vycross formulation, which is more heavily cross-linked than most other hyaluronic acid fillers. That makes it longer-lasting, but it also means it doesn't dissolve as easily with hyaluronidase. Reversing it can take a higher concentration of hyaluronidase, sometimes more than one session, and should be done by someone experienced specifically with Vycross products. Don't let anyone underestimate this. In our practice we tell patients that patience for the first few weeks, followed by a hands-on exam if the lump doesn't resolve, is the right sequence before jumping to dissolving anything.
Clinical Context
Most lumps after Voluma are just swelling or uneven settling and smooth out as tissue integrates. Occasionally a lump reflects a small area of trapped product or a mild inflammatory reaction, which can show up later than expected. Because there are a few different causes, an in-person exam is the most reliable way to tell what's going on if a lump doesn't improve—no timeline alone can substitute for that.
