Severe Hematoma from Botox
Any type of injection can injure an artery, which can lead to bruising and a hematoma (a collection of blood). The anatomy of delicate areas, such as tear throughs, can make the hematoma appear worse. Time is your best bet. Try gentle massage, and a good concealer can make the bruise easier to live with.
Clinical Context
A severe-looking hematoma after Botox usually reflects a nicked small vessel rather than a problem with the toxin itself, and it's a trade-off that comes with injecting near the eyes, temples, or any vascular area. The under-eye region in particular has thin skin and loose tissue with little support around vessels, so blood can spread and pool, making the bruise appear more alarming than the actual volume of bleeding warrants. Most cases resolve on their own within one to two weeks.
