What Are the Post Treatment Instructions After Botox?

We normally advise patients not to lay down for 4 hours after treatment (no bending forward either), no vigorous activity/exercise for 12 hours, and no rubbing, massaging or pressure on the treated areas for the first day. By following these rules, patients can help prevent the product from migrating outside of the injected area.

Clinical Context

Botulinum toxin needs time to attach to the nerve endings in the treated muscle. Until it does, pressure, rubbing, or lying face-down can encourage it to spread into nearby muscles - something more noticeable around the eyes and forehead than in larger areas like the jaw. Staying upright, skipping strenuous exercise, and avoiding touching or massaging the area for the rest of the day help keep the effect limited to where it was injected.
