What are Voluma XC risks or side effects?

With any injection, you may experience pain, bleeding, bruising, swelling, and redness at the injection sites. Those side effects are temporary. Other side effects that are more serious are vessel occlusion and, very rarely, blindness. Sometimes there may be lumpiness with injection of the product as well. You should have a detailed consultation where your needs can be assessed properly and your questions answered in person. The consultation will also provide you with information as to whether or not you are a good candidate for the treatment or what other options are available to you.

Clinical Context

Voluma XC is a hyaluronic acid gel approved for cheek augmentation, designed to be injected deep near the bone to restore volume and lift. Most side effects—bruising, swelling, tenderness—come from the needle itself and resolve within days. Rare but serious risks include injecting into a blood vessel, which can cause skin damage or, very rarely, vision changes. Choosing an experienced injector who understands facial anatomy helps minimize these risks.
