Will I be a better candidate for a Standard Tummy Tuck or Floating Belly Button?

A floating belly button tummy tuck involves detaching the bellybutton from the underlying tissue and pulling it down as you remove skin during the tummy tuck. It is not that common a procedure because it tends to displace the normal position of the bellybutton (your belly but ton will be lower that it is currently) and it can lead to other complications like necrosis, hernia or pain. While an in person exam with a board-certified plastic surgeon is always your best bet based on your description a full tummy tuck is likely your best option.

Clinical Context

The belly button has its own blood supply separate from the surrounding skin. In a standard tummy tuck, the navel stays attached to the abdominal wall in its original position while skin is removed around it. In a floating navel technique, the belly button is detached and repositioned, which can affect healing and its final blood supply. Swelling and position can continue to change for months after surgery, so early photos don't always reflect the final result.
