Will Radiesse Have Any Effect on Pregnancy?

As surgeons and physicians (and both) we often air on the side of safety. What is the benefit vs. the risk? While it is not clear that the risks are large, delaying Radiesse treatment for a few months would be the advice we would provide. You should also be a bit cautious about a practitioner that would provide a non-FDA approved treatment during your pregnancy. Maybe there are other corners they might cut. As always, seek a board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist.

Clinical Context

Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. The gel is absorbed within weeks, while the microspheres remain and gradually stimulate the body's own collagen over several months before slowly breaking down. Radiesse has not been studied for safety during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so there is no data confirming it poses no risk to a developing baby. Because of this unknown, many providers prefer to wait until after pregnancy and breastfeeding before treating with Radiesse or similar injectables.
