Will round implants be ok or do i need tear drop?

Most plastic surgeons feel that patients can get great natural looking results with round implants. One of the challenging issues with shaped or teardrop implants comes in the event that they change position in the pocket (more common than you'd think). This generally produces a very odd shape that can be difficult to correct without additional surgery. The best idea is to get a sense of your surgeon's comfort level with the surgical device and technique and ask about the risks and benefits of each.

Clinical Context

Shaped (teardrop) implants have textured shells designed to help them stay in place and resist rotation. That same texturing has been linked to BIA-ALCL, a rare, usually treatable lymphoma of the immune system. In 2019, the FDA asked Allergan to recall its heavily textured Biocell implants because of this risk. This is one reason many surgeons now favor smooth, round implants for most patients, though texture-related risk should be discussed individually with your surgeon.
