4 months post op, What Happens when You Stop Using Latisse?
Once you discontinue using Latisse, your lashes will slowly go back to their original state. You won't lose your eyelashes, but they definitely will not be as thick, long, and full after a few weeks once you stop using Latisse.
This happens because Latisse works by extending the active growth phase of each lash hair, and once you stop, that effect fades and the lashes cycle back to their normal growth pattern. Since not all lashes are in the same phase at the same time, the change is gradual rather than sudden, usually unfolding over several weeks rather than overnight. If you want to keep the fuller look, you can simply resume the product. If you notice unusual redness, irritation, or changes in eye color while using it, that's worth mentioning at your next visit.
Clinical Context
Bimatoprost's lash-growing effect was first noticed in glaucoma patients using it as an eye drop, and doctors found it reversed once treatment stopped. Eyelashes grow in cycles, with each hair going through active growth and rest phases at different times. Because of this, lashes don't all shorten at once after stopping Latisse — they gradually return to their natural length as each hair completes its own cycle, which is why the change happens over weeks rather than overnight.
