Can Pregnant Women Use Latisse?

It is always best to be cautious when deciding to use medications during pregnancy. Latisse's effects on pregnancy has not been studied, so it is advisable to be on the safe side and avoid using it while pregnant since it is used for cosmetic reasons.

Latisse contains bimatoprost, a compound related to prostaglandins, which in higher doses can stimulate uterine contractions. Only a small amount is absorbed through the skin when applied to the eyelid, but we simply don't have data confirming that amount is safe for a developing baby. Since eyelash growth isn't medically necessary, there's no reason to take on even a theoretical risk. If you're pregnant or trying to conceive, just pause use and bring it up at your next visit so we can plan around your pregnancy and breastfeeding timeline.

Clinical Context

Latisse contains bimatoprost, a compound related to prostaglandins. Medications in this class have been linked to uterine contractions when given in higher, systemic doses, such as those used medically to induce labor. Latisse is applied topically to the eyelid, so only a small amount reaches the bloodstream, but no research has confirmed that this small amount is safe during pregnancy. Because the treatment is cosmetic rather than medically necessary, most physicians recommend avoiding it until after pregnancy as a precaution.
