Almost 8 weeks post kybella and I have a small area that is tingly and slightly red. Is it working or should I see the doctor?
Numbness/tingling is common after Kybella treatments due to the mechanism of action of the product. Nerves are surrounded by a myelin sheath that helps to insulate the nerve. This sheath is made of proteins and phospholipids (a type of fat) so kybella can disrupt this protective layer, resulting in numbness or paresthesias (altered sensation). Usually these side effects are temporary and will resolves spontaneously over time. It seems like your side effects are lasting a little longer than expected but each patient is different. I would continue to massage the area and follow up with your injector for an in person evaluation.
Clinical Context
After Kybella, mild redness or tingling that stays in the treated area and slowly improves is usually a normal part of healing. Signs that warrant a prompt call to your injector include spreading redness or warmth, increasing swelling or firmness, worsening pain, or new symptoms rather than gradual improvement. If your symptoms are stable or mild, it's reasonable to monitor them, but any changes for the worse should be evaluated in person.
