Can you have a filler such as Juvederm injected under the eyes?
Dermal fillers are not FDA approved for injection to the tear trough area but many patients have good results when treated by an experienced injector. I prefer Restylane in this area as it tends to have less swelling than Juvederm. Proper technique is very important in this delicate area to minimize lumpiness and risk of side effects. Additionally, not everyone is a good candidate for tear trough filler. I encourage you to consult with an experienced board-certified injector for an in person evaluation.
Clinical Context
The under-eye skin is thin, with blood vessels and lymphatic channels close to the surface, so this area is more delicate than most injection sites. If hyaluronic acid filler is placed too close to the skin's surface, it can scatter light and create a bluish tint called the Tyndall effect, or it can attract fluid and look puffy. Careful, conservative placement by an experienced injector helps avoid these issues and lumpiness.
