Does Juvederm Ultra Plus gradually metabolise over a period of time or does it just go away all at once after so many months?

Hyaluronic acid fillers dissolve over time. Specifically for lips, the filler normally lasts around 6 to 8 months. The metabolizing process is pretty slow, so the changes in your lips shouldn't happen all at once. If you dislike what your lips look like with filler, I recommend seeing your provider for a dissolving treatment with hyaluronidase.

Clinical Context

Hyaluronic acid filler breaks down through a natural enzyme in your body called hyaluronidase, which slowly separates the gel into smaller pieces that get absorbed. This happens gradually, not all at once. Lips tend to metabolize filler faster than areas like the cheeks because of frequent muscle movement from talking and eating. Also, some initial fullness after injection is just swelling, which resolves within the first couple of weeks — so early changes you notice may reflect swelling going down rather than the filler itself breaking down.
