Juvederm Injections Under Eyes?
Juvederm (or any other filler) can be a useful tool for filling in static wrinkles. The lower lid skin however is quite thin and caution should be used as bumps and bruising can be more common in this area. We inject this area very rarely because of these potential problems. Also, be sure to recognize that this is considered an "off-label" use of Juvederm (it is not FDA approved for injection in this area). Have an honest conversation with your physician to assess the risks.
Clinical Context
The under-eye skin is thin, with little fat underneath to smooth out small irregularities, which is why lumps and bruising show up more easily here than in other areas. Blood vessels also lie close to the surface. In some patients, filler placed too close to the surface in this thin skin can create a bluish tint known as the Tyndall effect. These anatomical features make results less predictable than in thicker-skinned regions, even with careful technique.
