How long should I wait to work out after getting a bbl?

We do this operation frequently in our practice. Working out too early can increase bleeding risk as well as increase edema (swelling) which can compromise the survival rate of your transferred fat. We typically ask patients to avoid strenuous exercise for four weeks after the procedure. This number can change depending on our patients clinical progress.

Clinical Context

Freshly transferred fat has no blood supply of its own at first. The cells depend on nearby tissue fluid for nourishment until new blood vessels grow in and connect them, a process that takes time. Vigorous movement, muscle contraction, or pressure from sitting can disturb the graft before this happens, and swelling can further reduce the nutrients reaching the fat cells. This is why activity restrictions after fat transfer are more important than after many other cosmetic procedures.
