I had my lips injected today with Juvederm and am wondering if appearance is due to swelling?
Swelling is completely normal after having Juvederm injected. Swelling may be more pronounced on one side than the other. Normally swelling resolves in about 1-3 days and you will then have a good idea of what is truly asymmetrical after the initial swelling has subsided. 8 hours post injection is too soon to tell what your final result is. Give it some more time. A touch up can be done for anything that appears uneven once everything has healed completely.
Clinical Context
Typical post-filler swelling feels soft, looks like your normal skin tone, and gradually improves day to day. Warning signs are different: lips that turn unusually pale, dusky, or cold, or pain that keeps getting worse instead of better. Those signs suggest the filler may be compressing a blood vessel and need same-day evaluation by your injector, not a wait-and-see approach. Separately, any lip unevenness that existed before injection and simply became more noticeable with added volume won't resolve on its own — that's a different issue than swelling and may need a touch-up.
