Is the Use of Juvaderm in Areas Other Than the Naso-labial Folds Considered off Label?
Since 2008 Juvederm has been FDA approved for "moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (such as the nasolabial folds)". We regularly use Juvederm for correction of many undesired facial wrinkles and folds in addition to common off-label uses including lip enhancements and correction of acne scarring.
Clinical Context
Yes, technically—if your injector is treating cheeks, lips, tear troughs, or hands, that's outside Juvederm's original FDA-cleared area, even though it's routine practice. What matters for your decision isn't the label but whether the specific formulation suits that location's tissue depth and movement. FDA approval reflects where a product was studied in trials, not a limit on where it functions safely. Different Juvederm formulas vary in thickness and are matched to treatment sites, so off-label use is common and generally safe when the product choice fits the anatomy.
