Question about fillers and nasolabial folds: can my filler be dissolved?
Yes, hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm can be dissolved with an injectable enzyme called hyaluronidase, which breaks down the HA molecule within a day or two. But first, give it time. Swelling and bruising right after injection can distort the result and make things look lumpy or uneven that will settle out on their own within a couple weeks as tissues heal and the product integrates. What you see in the mirror at day two or three is not the final product.
If after two weeks you are still unhappy with the contour or volume in the nasolabial folds, hyaluronidase is a straightforward fix and generally well tolerated. Since I can't examine the area in question here, an in-person visit with your injector would help determine whether you're dealing with normal early swelling or a true asymmetry worth dissolving. A board-certified plastic surgeon can walk you through that decision at a follow-up visit.
Clinical Context
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down the hyaluronic acid in fillers like Juvederm, allowing your body to absorb and clear it naturally. It's injected directly into the treated area and is generally well tolerated, though some swelling or bruising can follow. Results usually appear within a day or two as the filler dissolves. Different HA fillers may clear at slightly different rates, but hyaluronidase will fully reverse hyaluronic acid–based products given enough time.
