Clinical Context
Silicone and hydrogel are not natural body substances, so once injected they stay permanently as foreign material. The body reacts by forming scar tissue around them, and in some cases they can shift position or form firm lumps later on, which are difficult to treat. Fat grafting is different: your own fat cells are transferred and need to develop a blood supply to survive. Some of the fat is naturally reabsorbed early on, but the portion that survives becomes living tissue integrated with the surrounding area, which is why results can look and feel natural.
