Why do some doctors perform Brazilian butt lifts with local anethesia?
While we do perform some smaller volume fat transfers (more typically for scar correction) a true BBL is likely to painful and requires too large a volume to safely be performed under local anesthesia. When you hear a physician encouraging local anesthetics for these types of procedures it should raise some questions.
Clinical Context
Local anesthetics have a maximum safe dose based on body weight. A true BBL involves large-volume fat removal and transfer, which requires far more lidocaine than that limit allows. Surgeons also consider how long the surgery will take, whether you'll need to be repositioned during the case, and how closely your vital signs need monitoring as fluids shift during liposuction. These safety factors are why a full BBL typically requires general anesthesia or deep sedation rather than local anesthesia alone.
