Will my lips go down?
Yes, lip swelling from filler is expected and it does go down. Hyaluronic acid filler draws in water, so the first two to four days are typically the most swollen, sometimes lopsided depending on injection technique and your own tissue response. Most of that swelling resolves within one to two weeks as the product settles and integrates with surrounding tissue. What you see in a photo taken a day or two after injection is rarely the final result. If you're still unhappy with size or symmetry once you're a few weeks out, go back to your injector. Filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed, or adjusted with additional product. An in-person exam is really the only way to tell swelling apart from actual overfill, since photos alone can be misleading depending on lighting and angle. A board-certified plastic surgeon or experienced injector can give you a clearer timeline specific to your case.
Clinical Context
Mild asymmetry in the first week is common and doesn't mean the filler was placed unevenly—tissue tightness and healing can differ side to side, even with identical technique. True overfill usually feels firm or looks bulky beyond two weeks, while normal swelling feels soft and gradually softens further. Avoid pressing, massaging, or applying heat to the area, since this can shift filler before it fully settles. If one side stays noticeably larger past three weeks, have your injector examine it in person rather than relying on photos.
